Smarana - Remembering Lost Children

This is a film on the agony of the mothers who lost their children in the ongoing Naxalite movement in Andhra Pradesh. About a dozen mothers who are essentially non-political and do not necessarily believe in their deceased children's politics, talk about their memories, the trauma, repression they have undergone both physically and emotionally when their children were away from home fighting for others' causes. Mothers were randomly interviewed from two regions where the movement is intense - Uddanam area of Srikakulam district and Jangoan area of Warangal district.

Great job on the documentary. Its not often that people give this side of the story. I grew up in warangal and can identify with the problem. Most of my well educated friends ask me "Hey! what do these naxals look like?" and expect me to describe some rakshasa or monster.
Congrats on winning the Indian Pulitzer.I would really like to see your award winning work.

Andhra police adopt Maoist leader's daughter

IANS
Tuesday, November 14, 2006 20:32 IST

HYDERABAD: On Children's Day, police in Warangal district have adopted the daughter of a top Maoist leader belonging to Communist Party of India (Maoist

Lanka Papi Reddy alias Ranganna, member of central committee of CPI (Maoist) has been underground since he joined the guerrilla movement two decades ago.

Ranganna married a woman member of the outfit in the forest. He sent his daughter to his mother's house in Atmakur village in the district about 10 years ago.

Since Ranganna's mother was finding it difficult to take care of the 11-year-old girl, the district police officials came forward to adopt her.

Warangal district Superintendent of Police Sowmya Mishra said police would take care of her education. She handed over a cheque of Rs.40,000 to an educational institution for this purpose.
-----------

QUESTION
------------

1. Where are these so called revolutionary ghadhars , Vara Vara Rao , why didn't they came forward to help these kids ?

2. If one watch Vanaja's movie carefully in (part 3) , one mother clearly states that his boy gave more troubles to her by joining this senseless murderous movement . Another mother states she had to sold gold and her jewellery to send her kid to college , and later she was shocked to see the kid in naxalism .

MOTHER IS THE DEAREST ONE ON EARTH , AND EVERY MOTHER LOVES HER CHILDREN .

This biased reporting doesn't serve anyones purpose . If you are unbiased , please visit Naxal victims and cover their side too .

SuryaKumari Upadhyayula !

I agree with you , why this so called freelance Journalist Ms.Vanaja visit families of Policemen who were killed by Naxalites , and also other vistims of Naxalism ?

These biased reporting needs to be stopped .

HAVING SAID THAT , we are not disagreeing that there were police excessess .

UNTIMATELY WHO IS ENJOYING THIS : Watch this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rwJQZiEv-U

NAXALITES ARE DOING JOB OF PAKISTANIS .

Congratulations on the award. It is important that people see these impacts on general population.
